Off to the Butcher

Posted by: Maddy

We first got sheep in July. We have cared for them enough that they look a lot better then when we got them. This morning we said good bye to all of the rams. Anna and I were the happiest to see them go since she and I where the ones that took care of them everyday. :) We sent 4 of them off to be processed in October, because they were limping and once they start limping there is no way to fix it (we tried and it didn't work).

I am really amazed at how much meat you can get off of a sheep for being small animals. They are supposed to be 80 pounds when they are ready to be processed (I guess that's not really that small). The 4 we got rid of back in October weren't to 80 pounds yet, and we got quite a lot of meat out of them. We took the last 6 rams in today. All we have left are 4 ewes  (female sheep). And 2 of them are pregnant (by accident)! Hopefully the Dad wasn't related. That's why we didn't keep our rams for breeding. We aren't sure which ones are related.

Here are some pictures of them before we loaded them up.

And them loaded up about to go

The little ones were sad to see them go but I think it is getting easier for them the more we do this.

Izzy's 12 Year Old Pictures

Now that Isabelle has been 12 for a month now, I finally got around to getting her pictures done! This post will be short and sweet and a big long one will be coming soon (hopefully)!

Memories From March

Hello all! We're back again! Man, what a busy month! Several birthdays, fun events, farm life, and everyday happenings! Shall we begin? This month literally started out with Norah turning 11! Here's just a few of her birthday photos!  This year, Norah requested a doughnut cake! Two doughnuts a person! Let's just say we all felt horrible that night. Loading more pigs up  Isaiah still doesn't know what to think of the sheep Izzy and Mr. Grumpy Gills  Katherine started riding a two-wheeler bike, with a little help from the training wheels! She could totally be a model!  Chick season has come around the corner...again! This will always be a favorite!  They make for good pets...when they're little anyway!  When you don't have a tractor and you need to seed the fields...  ...and chop broom grass down When Mom's not putting the food in your mouth fast enough  Meet the new bull calf, Demitri! ...

January + February

Welcome back! First of all, I apologize for the delay in posting this. I wish I could blame it on busyness, but it was also kind of a little procrastination. BUT, I hope you all had a fabulous January + February! It's still crazy to think we're now in the year of 2022, (am I the only one who continually keeps writing 2021 and then has to replace it with 2022?!).  During January we had the privilege of getting to witness the marriage of Dalton + Kenzie,                        Mom and Katherine made a sudden trip to Colorado for some family business (we ended up going two in a half weeks without her, which, if you have seen the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen," you understand how the last few days without her went. We were overjoyed to have her back home by the end of the 2 1/2 weeks!!), winter shenanigans, and other life happenings!      I think I can speak for everyone when I say, that I think the highligh...
