Thursday, our black Angus had a heifer calf! We wanted to watch the birth, but she kept walking away, more into the woods and after about 2 hours of following her, hoping she would just stop and have the baby, we lost her (our woods are really thick). So we decided to go back to the house. After an hour or two, we went back out to see if she had the calf yet. After a little while of looking through our thick woods we finally found the heifers. And there it was! A little calf walking around!!! We warned the little ones not to get too close, or the mom would get mad. Ike had to find out the hard way that cows don't like dogs messing with their babies! She charged him. After that, he stayed his distance.
It's nice to finally have a baby animal on the farm! As we would pass by other people's fields full of cows and calf's, we would keep wondering when we would have one. Everyone has lambs coming now too, which we are still waiting on.....
Our brown cow looks like she should "come fresh" (give birth) soon. Our Pinzgauer heifer (the black & white one), if she is indeed pregnant, will probably come fresh last.

The 2 pictures above were taken within an hour of the little girl being born.
