Animals on Pasture

We officially have all our animals on pasture, minus our little laying hen chicks (still very tiny and need to stay in the brooder). The sheep were moved from the corral to the pasture 2 weeks ago. The pigs have been there all along. Right now we have them in the garden uprooting weeds. They come in really handy! About 2 weeks ago we took our 4 large pigs to the butcher. Loading animals up for that is always the hardest part of working with the animals, because it's off routine. But we got it done. We were all very glad to have that over with! So now we just have the 5 little pigs.

We haven't been moving our cows everyday since we got them. We thought we would wait until they had their babies. And now that the grass is growing so well, it was a good time to put them in electric fencing too. Saturday the Storries (the family we get our milk from) showed us how to tag and castrate calves. So now that we have the calves taken care of, we are moving them regularly. They like the routine and get into it as much as the sheep do. It makes them look forward to seeing you everyday when you go out to move them. They are excellent lawn mowers! We have them in front of the chickens so that they eat the grass down for them. Then the chickens go and clean up after the cows. It's a great cycle!

The black sheep in the picture is a ram that we are borrowing for a month. It turned out that our sheep weren't pregnant, just really fat and healthy. Let me tell you, he is a very friendly guy. This time we know he's not related!!!
We have sheep in front of one egg mobile, and cows in front of the other one.

I love this picture!
Our broilers are getting so big! Its hard to believe that they have already lived half their life now that they are 4 weeks old! They get butchered at 8 weeks old.

Memories From March

Hello all! We're back again! Man, what a busy month! Several birthdays, fun events, farm life, and everyday happenings! Shall we begin? This month literally started out with Norah turning 11! Here's just a few of her birthday photos!  This year, Norah requested a doughnut cake! Two doughnuts a person! Let's just say we all felt horrible that night. Loading more pigs up  Isaiah still doesn't know what to think of the sheep Izzy and Mr. Grumpy Gills  Katherine started riding a two-wheeler bike, with a little help from the training wheels! She could totally be a model!  Chick season has come around the corner...again! This will always be a favorite!  They make for good pets...when they're little anyway!  When you don't have a tractor and you need to seed the fields...  ...and chop broom grass down When Mom's not putting the food in your mouth fast enough  Meet the new bull calf, Demitri! ...

January + February

Welcome back! First of all, I apologize for the delay in posting this. I wish I could blame it on busyness, but it was also kind of a little procrastination. BUT, I hope you all had a fabulous January + February! It's still crazy to think we're now in the year of 2022, (am I the only one who continually keeps writing 2021 and then has to replace it with 2022?!).  During January we had the privilege of getting to witness the marriage of Dalton + Kenzie,                        Mom and Katherine made a sudden trip to Colorado for some family business (we ended up going two in a half weeks without her, which, if you have seen the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen," you understand how the last few days without her went. We were overjoyed to have her back home by the end of the 2 1/2 weeks!!), winter shenanigans, and other life happenings!      I think I can speak for everyone when I say, that I think the highligh...
