I thought for those of you who haven't seen Katherine in awhile, or for those who haven't seen her at all, you might like to see some recent pictures of her. I got some pretty cool pictures on the way to a friend's house the other night that I thought I would post. I love these pink/purple tree buds that bloom in the spring time here! They are so pretty! There were so many off the highway.

We officially have all our animals on pasture, minus our little laying hen chicks (still very tiny and need to stay in the brooder). The sheep were moved from the corral to the pasture 2 weeks ago. The pigs have been there all along. Right now we have them in the garden uprooting weeds. They come in really handy! About 2 weeks ago we took our 4 large pigs to the butcher. Loading animals up for that is always the hardest part of working with the animals, because it's off routine. But we got it done. We were all very glad to have that over with! So now we just have the 5 little pigs. We haven't been moving our cows everyday since we got them. We thought we would wait until they had their babies. And now that the grass is growing so well, it was a good time to put them in electric fencing too. Saturday the Storries (the family we get our milk from) showed us how to tag and castrate calves. So now that we have the calves taken care of, we are moving them regularly. They like the ...

 Our broilers arrived 2 weeks ago! We got 150 this time. They came with 3 extra's, so conveniently 3 arrived dead. So we had 150 even. Since then we have lost 4 more. One acted like it was sick from the time we got him, so no surprise that that one died. The second one we have no idea why it died, the third was killed when a little kid who was visiting fell on it. A fourth one died from unknown causes. Other than that, it's going pretty well raising them! We did get a chick with what we thought was a broken neck. It couldn't look down. It pretty much always had to look up. This one we didn't think would make it very long because of that, but since its been in the IICU (Izzy's Intensive Care Unit) its been growing as fast as the other chicks! It might make it to 8 weeks like the others! This is the chick Izzy was taking special care of. He wasn't able to drink by himself for the first couple of days, so Izzy put him in a little cardboard box in the house...

This past week we had 2 thunderstorms. The last one was the largest and definitely had the most lightning! It was so cool to watch! Thankfully we didn't get any hail. I got a couple videos of the lightning this time so I could post them! And then here are some photo's right before it started raining. They are pretty neat! The storm passing by

Friday our brown cow had her calf!!! A little bull calf. So now we have one of each gender. I know that in the last calf post, I said that the black one was a bull calf, but after a couple of days we found out that it was a girl. Okay, we don't know everything about cows. We are still learning about them.  But this latest one is FOR SURE a male. The 2 youngsters are 8 days apart and now the black one has a buddy to play with! They are so cute!!!! After we found out that the first calf was a female, we were relieved because we didn't have to worry about castrating. But now I guess we will have to anyway. Another thing yet to learn I guess!
