New Arrivals

Posted by: Maddy

This afternoon we got some guinea keets. We are not sure which ones are male and which ones are female yet. They are so cute!!! We have them in the brooder, but in 2 weeks we will move them to a hen house that we have in our front yard. They are for bug control. I also hear that they are great watch dogs as well! The little ones are happy that they are somewhat of a 'pet' and we won't be processing any of them!  So its safe to get attached to them.

My sisters have also been doing a lot of swimming since the weather has been really hot ( you can tell from the pictures that we haven't cleaned the pool for awhile ).

Our meat chickens are getting so big! Compared to the laying hens, the meat chickens are pretty lazy. Also a personal note from me, they are quite ugly too!

We also have turkeys coming in 2 weeks as well! They will be old enough to process a week before Christmas! So I guess we will all be out there in the cold getting turkeys ready for Christmas.

We have been pretty busy finding uses for our cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and zucchini that we have been getting from our garden. We have more than we know what to do with! I have made a lot of zucchini bread and Mom has done lots of canning ( she has to keep running to the store to get more canning jars! ) and we have ended up freezing a lot of it! All the extras that we don't want to deal with we feed to the pigs. Which means that we will have lots of plants everywhere the pigs have been next year. What we are going to do with those, I have no idea! We will have gardens all around the property!!!!

This is our little homemade brooder we put together in the greenhouse to keep the 15 guinea keets until they are big enough to live in the front yard. The brooder is where you keep your young birds until they are 2 weeks old. It is meant to keep them warm. I'm not exactly sure what they will look like when they are older.
My sisters having fun in the pool.

They almost look like they are standing on the water!

Memories From March

Hello all! We're back again! Man, what a busy month! Several birthdays, fun events, farm life, and everyday happenings! Shall we begin? This month literally started out with Norah turning 11! Here's just a few of her birthday photos!  This year, Norah requested a doughnut cake! Two doughnuts a person! Let's just say we all felt horrible that night. Loading more pigs up  Isaiah still doesn't know what to think of the sheep Izzy and Mr. Grumpy Gills  Katherine started riding a two-wheeler bike, with a little help from the training wheels! She could totally be a model!  Chick season has come around the corner...again! This will always be a favorite!  They make for good pets...when they're little anyway!  When you don't have a tractor and you need to seed the fields...  ...and chop broom grass down When Mom's not putting the food in your mouth fast enough  Meet the new bull calf, Demitri! ...

Izzy's 12 Year Old Pictures

Now that Isabelle has been 12 for a month now, I finally got around to getting her pictures done! This post will be short and sweet and a big long one will be coming soon (hopefully)!
