Our First Thanksgiving in Missouri!

Posted by: Maddy This year was the first year we all spent a holiday by ourselves. It was quite nice actually. We did miss celebrating with the rest of the Coulters back in Colorado, but it was nice to have a quiet holiday for a change. We got to spend time together talking about what thankfulness really means and how we can all work on being grateful. It's a good time to remember that God is the reason we have what we have and He is the one that placed us together with the family He did for a reason. We had a 23 pound turkey! Ours weren't ready in time as you know,so we found someone else who raises them the same way we do to get one from.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Ashley's handmade sign

More News

Posted by: Maddy I am sorry for the delay in posting! Life on a farm keeps you quite busy! :) I will now update you all on what has been going on here within the last week. 1st, we had our first REAL snow. Those other storms don't count because they didn't last long and left nothing. We don't get the kind of snow that Colorado does but we got a little bit on Sunday. It has been below freezing every night for the past 2 weeks now. Which is a record for Missouri. They haven't had that before. Unfreezing water really isn't that bad. Breaking ice is easy. The only animals that really don't like this weather are the cats. They aren't allowed in the house and every once in a while they try to run right in when we open the door!  We put straw in a shelter we have for the dogs so that they could stay warm at night. The only problem is... The silly cow thought it was for her! Yes, that is Maggie and Lizzy! They have grown so much!

Pigs

Posted by: Maddy In my last post I mentioned the pigs and then I got to thinking that some of you who read it might want to see what they look like. So I am posting pictures of our pigs. We think we have 3 males and 1 female. It doesn't really matter though because we will have them all processed in February ( thankfully we don't have to process those ourselves ). Pigs are one of the easiest animals to raise. They don't wander, they will follow you if you have food, and they haven't gotten out since they have gotten bigger ( when they did get out we just got food and they all followed us back in ). One evening I looked out and there were 4 pigs out in our front lawn! They were easy to get back in their fencing. Not everyday you see that! It was pretty funny!

Staying Busy

Posted by: Maddy Life has not slowed down at all. We are staying as busy as ever! Friday night was the first day that it went below freezing. So then on Saturday morning, we had to go out and unfreeze all the animals' water. We aren't really looking forward to doing that all winter long. The weather has been pretty chilly here lately. It will be a new experience to farm during the winter. We made it through summer, which I thought was challenging, but now we have to make it through the winter. I'm guessing winter is more challenging than summer. Yesterday we helped some friends of ours process 200 chickens. The overall count of chickens we have helped process this summer is 700. We really got some practice in! It's more fun at someone else's house with more people to help! So yesterday we had a lot of fun. We moved our pigs to the pond to see if they would seal the pond up so it won't leak. We have a leak  and we have read that pigs should fix the problem.
