Chicken Processing Day #1

Saturday was the big day to process 150 chickens! The day started at 3:30 AM when we all woke up and started filling chill tanks and the scalder and turned the propane tank on to heat the water. This was one of the few days that I actually had some coffee. I was tired.

Between 5:30 - 6, we started. The Storries came over and helped us, so that was nice!  All the birds were dead, eviscerated, and in the chill tanks by 12! It was great! I think we are getting pretty good at processing!

This time we processed on our front porch in front of the garage. We found it's better to process on concrete than grass since it gets so muddy and concrete is easy to clean. It worked out great!

Anna and Izzy didn't take very many pictures this time because we were on a mission to get everything done by noon but here are some that she got toward the end.

And now we get to start this all over again when we get 150 more broiler chicks tomorrow!

Izzy's 12 Year Old Pictures

Now that Isabelle has been 12 for a month now, I finally got around to getting her pictures done! This post will be short and sweet and a big long one will be coming soon (hopefully)!

Memories From March

Hello all! We're back again! Man, what a busy month! Several birthdays, fun events, farm life, and everyday happenings! Shall we begin? This month literally started out with Norah turning 11! Here's just a few of her birthday photos!  This year, Norah requested a doughnut cake! Two doughnuts a person! Let's just say we all felt horrible that night. Loading more pigs up  Isaiah still doesn't know what to think of the sheep Izzy and Mr. Grumpy Gills  Katherine started riding a two-wheeler bike, with a little help from the training wheels! She could totally be a model!  Chick season has come around the corner...again! This will always be a favorite!  They make for good pets...when they're little anyway!  When you don't have a tractor and you need to seed the fields...  ...and chop broom grass down When Mom's not putting the food in your mouth fast enough  Meet the new bull calf, Demitri! ...

Catching Up

Well, I thought I would start doing one post at the beginning of the month about the previous one, but its clear (at least to me) that it doesn't work to well. At least I don't like the way it was working out. I like doing smaller posts more often then one large post less often. Its just my style. So I am waiting no longer to share this photos from the first half of this month! Its amazing to think about all that has happened this month already. Its been pretty busy. Well first of all, like every year, the month started out with Norah's birthday!  Izzy got her 9 year old photos. I think this one is my favorite. This year, mom and some of my little siblings did something different and hung pictures around the the dining and living area from ultrasound pictures of her to recent pictures of her. It was a pretty neat idea!  Yes, you could say we do things pretty fancy when its someone's birthday  Mom working on the cake  'Wow! Your nine...
