July Reflections

Posted by: Maddy

The month of July was a really busy month. It was exciting too! We got pigs, sheep, meat chickens, and some really adorable puppys!!!! ( the puppy's names are Maggie and Lizzy. My mom named then after Margaret Thatcher and Elizabeth Elliot )  The highlight of the month for me was when Julianna came out for a week to stay with us. It was great to have a friend out for a week and we where all sad to see her go. She got to be a Coulter for a week and do all the farm chores with us. Moving the animals, watering and feeding them, cleaning up a junk pile on our land etc. She was a great help! And of course, there where some things we just did for fun. Like play in the pool, drawing and painting, exploring the woods, and baking. We also got to show her around some of Springfield and show her fun places we enjoy to go as well! The week went by too fast for me.

It is now a new month , and who knows whats going to happen next! Last Saturday we celebrated Havi's 4th birthday, and then on Monday we got some more experience on processing chickens at another farm pretty close to us. Its amazing how much we have all learned out here! Today my mom and I have been trying to put the food from our garden to good use. We are making pickles, and salsa with the cucumbers and tomatoes we have.

August In A Nutshell

Hello folks!  We hope you all had a great August!  This month Mom, Dad, and Isaiah drove to CO to drop Peyton and Norah off, so they could visit with our Grandmas for two weeks. They were supposed to go to Germany and Austria with Grandma Mary in June, but, due to covid19, they weren’t able to go.  But they still needed some Grandma time! We also butchered around 300 chickens this month. We’ve never butchered that many at the same time before, so we broke them up into two different butcher days. (Since we had to cut up 200 of them).  And took steers to the butcher!!!  August was also ‘drought  month’ for MO. The fields turned crispy brown,  which hasn’t been helpful for our grazing cattle.   Thankfully, we’ve gotten some good rains right at the end of the month,  and things have once again greened up! Priscilla (my cow) FINALLY had her calf!! We’ve been waiting so long for her to arrive! (YES!!! She had a heifer!!!!!!) So, the process of milking has finally begun! And we’re already get

Memories From March

Hello all! We're back again! Man, what a busy month! Several birthdays, fun events, farm life, and everyday happenings! Shall we begin? This month literally started out with Norah turning 11! Here's just a few of her birthday photos!  This year, Norah requested a doughnut cake! Two doughnuts a person! Let's just say we all felt horrible that night. Loading more pigs up  Isaiah still doesn't know what to think of the sheep Izzy and Mr. Grumpy Gills  Katherine started riding a two-wheeler bike, with a little help from the training wheels! She could totally be a model!  Chick season has come around the corner...again! This will always be a favorite!  They make for good pets...when they're little anyway!  When you don't have a tractor and you need to seed the fields...  ...and chop broom grass down When Mom's not putting the food in your mouth fast enough  Meet the new bull calf, Demitri!
